A man was taken into custody over the weekend following a break-in and act of vandalism at the Thurston County Family Courts facility.
Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) deputies rushed to the building on Sunday after a burglary alarm was triggered. Upon arrival, law enforcement personnel discovered shattered glass and observed a male suspect actively destroying property inside the courthouse. Deputies successfully de-escalated the situation, bringing the individual into custody safely and without further incident.
During their subsequent investigation of the property damage, deputies found that the courthouse’s American flag had been stripped from its flagpole and stuffed inside a nearby mailbox.
After documenting the scene and securing the necessary evidence, deputies retrieved the flag and returned it to its rightful position on the flagpole. Authorities noted that the flag would remain flying appropriately for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
