A pilot successfully touched down on a highway in Vancouver, Washington, on Saturday afternoon after his aircraft experienced mechanical issues shortly after takeoff. The small Cessna landed on the eastbound lanes of State Route 14 near Southeast Marine Park Way around noon, missing all vehicles on the road.
The pilot, who was the only person on board, was not injured in the incident. Following the emergency landing, the Washington State Patrol and local traffic control coordinated a rolling slowdown, allowing the plane to taxi safely onto the shoulder and eventually back toward Pearson Field Airport. While the landing caused temporary closures and significant delays for Saturday travelers, all lanes were reopened by late afternoon once the aircraft was cleared from the scene.
