A 62-year-old physical education teacher and coach at Skykomish K-12 School was taken into custody last Friday following allegations of a two-year sexual relationship with a student. According to investigators from the King County Sheriff’s Office, the abuse reportedly began when the victim was in the seventh grade.
Details of the Allegations Court documents reveal that the student initially turned to the teacher for support after experiencing the traumatic loss of a classmate at a previous school. Prosecutors allege that the coach groomed the student by providing small gifts, such as sports memorabilia, before the relationship turned sexual.
The documents further state that the suspect provided the minor with alcohol—specifically hard lemonade and whiskey—multiple times a week. Investigators also discovered that the pair communicated via the coach’s official school district email, using coded language to plan sexual encounters. Other items seized by authorities included suggestive clothing and adult products allegedly given to the student by the coach.
The Investigation The case came to light after the victim’s mother discovered incriminating messages and images on her daughter’s phone and contacted law enforcement. One particularly disturbing detail from the report alleges that sexual acts occurred in a school stairwell while the victim’s younger brother, who has autism, sat nearby in the gym wearing noise-canceling headphones.
The suspect was arrested on school grounds during regular hours. Following the arrest, the Skykomish School District issued a notification to parents via social media and formal letters.
Current Status While the suspect has been booked into the King County Jail on suspicion of sexual misconduct with a minor, formal charges have not yet been filed. Due to the pending status of the charges, local media outlets have not yet released the suspect’s name.
