A major hazardous materials incident at a Southwest Washington industrial site sent multiple individuals to area hospitals with chemical burns. Emergency responders rushed to the scene early Tuesday morning following reports of an explosion and a severe chemical leak.
The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. at the Nippon Dynawave Packaging Company facility located along Industrial Way. According to the Longview Fire Department, a large liquid hazmat storage tank imploded, releasing hazardous materials and leaving multiple patients with severe burns and other injuries. Ambulances transported the victims to PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center in Longview and PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver for treatment.
Regional hazardous materials teams and emergency crews spent hours working to contain the aftermath of the structural failure. Authorities confirmed that while the situation remains an active and complex operation, there is no immediate threat to the city or the surrounding public areas. Residents and commuters are being strongly urged to avoid Industrial Way and steer clear of the immediate vicinity while cleanup and stabilization efforts continue.
