Thieves in Italy have pulled off a massive chocolate heist, making off with a truck containing roughly 12 tons of KitKat bars. Nestlé reported that the shipment, consisting of over 413,000 candy bars, disappeared last week while traveling from a production facility in central Italy toward Poland.
The food giant noted that neither the vehicle nor its sweet cargo has been located. While the company made light of the situation by joking that the criminals had “exceptional taste,” they used the incident to highlight the growing and increasingly sophisticated problem of cargo theft across Europe.
Despite the large scale of the theft, Nestlé assured fans that there will be no shortage of KitKats ahead of the Easter holiday. The company also warned that the stolen goods might surface in “unofficial” markets, but noted that each bar has a unique batch code that can be scanned to verify if it was part of the missing shipment.
