Seattle’s elite social scene is facing a major change as the Columbia Tower Club prepares to shut down permanently. Located on the 75th and 76th floors of the city’s tallest building, the private club has announced it will cease operations this summer, marking the end of a four-decade run.
The club, which opened in 1985, was notable for being the first private social club in Seattle to welcome members regardless of race, gender, or religion. Over the years, it became a premier destination for business networking, high-end dining, and weddings, all set against panoramic views of the Puget Sound and the city skyline.+1
Club management cited a shifting post-pandemic landscape and changing work habits in downtown Seattle as primary reasons for the closure. With more professionals working remotely and fewer people commuting to the city center, the demand for traditional city club memberships has declined.
Members were notified that the club’s final day of service will be in late June. While the closure marks the end of an era for the historic venue, the building’s public Sky View Observatory—located a few floors below—is expected to remain open to the public.
