Former Pierce County Jail Guard Sentenced to 10 Days in Custody After Running Over Ex-Girlfriend’s Head

A former corrections officer from the Pierce County Jail has received a 10-day jail sentence after hitting and running over his ex-girlfriend with his truck during a drunk driving incident on New Year’s Eve.

The defendant, 23-year-old Cameron Boucher, entered guilty pleas last month to charges of DUI and vehicular assault. Though standard sentencing guidelines for the offenses typically call for a three-to-nine-month jail term, prosecutors and defense attorneys joined in recommending a significantly reduced sentence. The leniency was argued on the basis that the victim was considered a willing participant in the events leading up to the crash. Boucher, who was terminated from his role at the jail following his arrest in January, will serve the time over the span of three weekends.

The incident occurred outside a bar in Tacoma around 2 a.m. Following a night of separate drinking, Boucher went to his vehicle, where he was approached by his ex-girlfriend. According to police records, the woman lost her footing and fell to the ground just as Boucher began backing up his truck, rolling over her head. A bystander managed to pull the woman away and alert Boucher by striking the side of the truck, which led to a physical fight between the two men before officers arrived.

A subsequent breathalyzer test showed that Boucher’s blood-alcohol content was double the legal driving limit in Washington. The victim suffered severe injuries, including multiple facial fractures, a torn ear, and a major scalp laceration that required nine staples, keeping her out of work for more than a month.

Though Boucher had no prior criminal record, an internal investigation later revealed a history of traffic violations and a suspended license in Rhode Island. Additionally, the inquiry found that a relative working at a separate law enforcement agency had previously intervened to overturn a disqualified application when Boucher initially sought employment as a corrections officer.
