A man who spent nearly a decade evading the law has finally been taken into custody. Jerry Denson, 36, was arrested on Thursday in West Seattle after eight years on the run.
Denson’s legal troubles began in March 2017 following a tragic suspected DUI crash on I-5 in Kent. According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), Denson was behind the wheel when his vehicle rolled over, resulting in the death of his 28-year-old passenger, who was thrown from the car. While he was initially charged with vehicular homicide, Denson failed to appear for his court dates, landing him on the state’s “Most Wanted” list by October of that year.
The breakthrough in the cold case came after a collaborative multi-month investigation involving WSP detectives, the Organized Crime Intelligence Unit, and the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force. Their combined efforts eventually tracked Denson to a West Seattle location where he was apprehended without incident.
Following the arrest, WSP Captain Trisena Sharff emphasized that the passage of time does not grant immunity to those fleeing serious charges, noting that the agency remains dedicated to finding fugitives to provide closure for victims’ families.
Denson is currently being held on $100,000 bail as he awaits legal proceedings for the 2017 fatality.
