An eight-year veteran of the Arlington Police Department has been arrested and placed on administrative leave following allegations that he possessed thousands of files containing child sexual abuse material. Dustin Bartlett, 41, was taken into custody at his Camano Island residence and booked into the Island County Jail, where his bail was set at $100,000 during his preliminary court appearance.
The investigation began following a domestic dispute at Bartlett’s home. According to court documents, Bartlett’s girlfriend discovered explicit files on an external hard drive, which triggered a physical confrontation when he allegedly pushed her to prevent her from viewing the contents. She subsequently handed over two hard drives to the Island County Sheriff’s Office. An initial forensic review by detectives uncovered dozens of severe violations, with authorities estimating the drives contain more than 1,000 illicit images.
As a result, Bartlett faces more than ten counts of first-degree possession of depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct, alongside charges of fourth-degree domestic violence assault, lying to investigators, and attempting to destroy evidence.
The Arlington Police Department expressed profound shock over the arrest of Bartlett, who had previously received department accolades, including a Life Saving Award. Police Chief Jonathan Venture stated that the allegations are deeply disheartening and run entirely counter to the core values and responsibilities of law enforcement, adding that the department is cooperating fully with the ongoing criminal investigation.
