A 24-year-old man wanted for a sexual assault in Bothell was apprehended by Kent police Tuesday afternoon after a high-tech camera system flagged his vehicle.
A “Needle in a Haystack” Find The arrest was made possible by a “Be On the Lookout” (BOLO) alert issued by the Bothell Police Department. While searching for a specific vehicle associated with the suspect, Kent patrol officers utilized Flock Safety cameras—a network of automated license plate readers. The system successfully identified the car at a local bank in downtown Kent, allowing officers to move in and take the man into custody without incident.
Law Enforcement Collaboration Kent Police Chief Rafael Padilla praised the technology, noting that while such surveillance tools can be a point of public debate, they are instrumental in solving regional crimes. He emphasized that the technology allows Kent to assist neighboring agencies on a weekly basis, making it much harder for fugitives to hide by crossing city lines.
Next Steps The suspect, whose identity has not yet been publicly released, was turned over to Bothell authorities. He faces potential charges of second-degree rape and unlawful imprisonment. Kent police officials issued a stern warning following the arrest, stating that the city is “not the place to run to” for those attempting to evade the law.
