Blatant Power Grab: How WA Democrats and Gov. Ferguson Are Skewing Voting Maps Under the Guise of “Equity”

In a blistering critique, conservative commentator Jason Rantz takes aim at Washington Democrats and Governor Bob Ferguson, accusing them of hiding behind hypocritical and misleading rhetoric following a pivotal U.S. Supreme Court ruling on racial redistricting. Rantz argues that local progressive leaders are fundamentally misrepresenting the high court’s decision in a desperate attempt to protect their own aggressive gerrymandering practices and solidify their supermajority in the state legislature.

The controversy surrounds the redrawing of legislative boundaries, which Democrats claim is necessary to ensure fair representation and protect minority voting rights. Rantz, however, cuts through the narrative, asserting that the legislative maps pushed by Ferguson and his allies are intentionally engineered to dilute conservative voting blocs and systematically lock Republicans out of competitive districts. He calls out the irony of the left’s constant warnings about “threats to democracy,” pointing out that they are actively manipulating the democratic process to insulate themselves from political accountability.

By falsely framing the Supreme Court’s jurisprudence on redistricting as a partisan attack, Rantz argues, Washington progressives are trying to preemptively justify their own unconstitutional, race-based map manipulations. Ultimately, the column warns that this ongoing redistricting push is less about civil rights and entirely about consolidating raw political control—leaving everyday Washington voters with rigged maps and an increasingly unrepresentative state government.
