Seattle’s “Freakout” Music Festival Moves to New Fall Date for 2026

The Freakout Festival, a staple of Seattle’s independent music scene, is shaking things up for its upcoming 14th edition. Organizers have announced that the event—traditionally held in November—will shift to a new weekend in October 2026, aiming to capitalize on better weather and avoid the holiday rush.

The move marks a strategic pivot for the festival as it continues to grow from a small psych-rock gathering into a major multi-venue international event.

Key details for the 2026 festival:

  • The Big Move: The festival is now scheduled to take place from October 8 to 11, 2025. By moving up the calendar, organizers hope to bypass the late-autumn “Seattle gloom” and offer a more comfortable experience for fans traveling between venues.
  • Ballard as the Epicenter: The festival will maintain its home in the Ballard neighborhood, utilizing iconic local stages like the Tractor Tavern, Sunset Tavern, and Salmon Bay Eagle’s Hall.
  • Global Lineup: True to its reputation, the 2026 lineup features a heavy emphasis on international talent, particularly from Mexico and South America, alongside Pacific Northwest local favorites. The goal remains to create a “psychedelic melting pot” of sounds.
  • Economic Impact: The date change is also intended to help local Ballard businesses. Moving the festival out of the busy November pre-holiday season allows bars and restaurants to better handle the influx of thousands of music fans.
  • Ticket Information: Early bird passes are expected to go on sale in early summer. Organizers noted that despite the venue changes and date shifts, the festival will keep its “all-access” wristband model, allowing fans to hop between shows throughout the weekend.

The Freakout Festival has long been praised for its curation and community-focused atmosphere. By shifting to October, the event looks to solidify its place as one of the premier destination festivals for underground music in the Western United States.
