A lucky pup is back on solid ground thanks to the quick work of Lake Stevens Fire and Rescue crews who spent hours on a delicate extraction mission.
The Situation The rescue began Tuesday afternoon when a dog reportedly chased a smaller animal into a large underground drainage pipe. The dog traveled several dozen feet into the narrow passage but soon became stuck, unable to move forward or back out.
The Rescue Effort Firefighters arrived on the scene and quickly realized the dog was wedged deep within the pipe system. Using specialized equipment, including cameras to pinpoint the dog’s exact location and specialized digging tools, crews worked carefully to avoid causing the pipe to collapse or distressing the animal further.
After nearly three hours of tactical maneuvering and digging, firefighters were able to reach the dog and safely pull it to freedom.
A Happy Ending Aside from being tired and covered in mud, the dog appeared to be uninjured. Lake Stevens Fire and Rescue shared photos of the successful mission on social media, reminding pet owners to keep a close eye on their furry friends near drainage systems and construction areas. The dog was reunited with its grateful owners shortly after being pulled from the ground.
