Fatal Incident on Bethel Road
According to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred just after 11 p.m. near the intersection of Bethel Road Southeast and Southeast Van Skiver Road. A 41-year-old man from Silverdale was walking in the area when he was struck by a southbound pickup truck. Despite the arrival of emergency responders, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries shortly after the collision.
Driver Cooperation and Initial Findings
The driver of the truck, a 24-year-old Port Orchard resident, remained at the scene and cooperated fully with law enforcement. Investigators reported that the driver did not see the pedestrian before the impact. Deputies performed field sobriety and breathalyzer tests on the driver, which showed no signs of impairment or drug and alcohol use.
Ongoing Investigation
The Kitsap Interagency Traffic Team has taken the lead on the investigation to determine the exact circumstances leading up to the crash. As of Wednesday, authorities have not filed any charges, and they are working to determine if factors such as visibility or road conditions played a role in the tragedy.
