A 40-year-old man, Antonio Solomon, is facing first-degree murder charges following a “brutal and violent” stabbing earlier this month. The incident, which prosecutors believe was motivated by jealousy, resulted in the death of 43-year-old Joseph Christopher Moore near a Kent convenience store.
Key Details of the Investigation:
- The Incident: On the night of April 7, Moore was attacked outside a Circle K on West Meeker Street. Prosecutors allege that while Moore was looking down at his phone, Solomon stabbed him four times with extreme force before fleeing the scene.
- The Motive: Investigators learned that Solomon’s girlfriend worked as a clerk at the store. She told police that Solomon had previously seen Moore during a FaceTime call and suspected him of hitting on her. Solomon reportedly admitted to waiting for Moore outside the store to confront him.
- The Arrest: Detectives tracked Solomon to a local hotel on April 9 and took him into custody. He had recently moved to Washington from Texas in February and had no permanent housing or significant ties to the state.
- Legal Proceedings: Solomon has been charged with first-degree murder, with bail set at $5 million. Prosecutors requested the high amount due to the unprovoked nature of the attack and the high risk that Solomon might flee the state.
Community leaders and prosecutors have described the attack as a tragic and senseless act of violence against a regular customer who had attempted to de-escalate previous tensions by simply walking away.
