A quiet Puyallup neighborhood was shattered on Thursday morning when a domestic dispute escalated into a deadly shooting, leaving two people dead and another critically injured.
Violence Spills Into the Street
According to the Puyallup Police Department, the incident began around 9:15 a.m. as a heated argument between three family members inside a home near 31st Street Northwest. Witnesses and police report that the conflict quickly intensified and moved outdoors, spilling into the street and eventually onto a neighbor’s driveway and garage.
A Neighbor’s Intervention
During the confrontation, a man involved in the dispute opened fire on two adult female family members. One woman was killed at the scene, while the second was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The violence was halted when the homeowner of the property where the shooting was occurring intervened. Seeing the suspect firing at the women, the neighbor drew his own firearm and shot the suspect, killing him. Investigators noted that the neighbor is cooperating fully with the investigation, and police praised his quick action in preventing further loss of life.
Community in Shock
Local residents expressed disbelief at the violence in their normally peaceful community. Michelle Weingarden-Bandes, a nurse living nearby, was one of the first to provide medical aid to the victims before emergency responders arrived. She described a chaotic scene, noting that shell casings in the driveway suggested the victims were shot while trying to flee.
The Puyallup Police Department is currently managing two separate crime scenes and interviewing multiple witnesses to determine the exact motive behind the dispute. While the names of those involved have not yet been officially released, authorities confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public.
